Description

The castro de Formigueiros is a castrexo town from the iron age located near the place “of the Airexa”, in the parish of Formigueiros, in the council of Samos.

It was the subject of archaeological excavations since the year 2006 year 2008. Two occupations were defined. The first, would begin in the 3rd centuries – II BC and would end in the middle of the first century. Then it seems that it was abandoned and a new occupation is detected, with constructions raised on the demolished walls of the houses and the wall. Evidence points to a late or later Roman phase. Slabs decorated with circles were also found, horses and fish in a small town square.
